1. Who we are

Shelf'd ("we", "our", "us") is a book-based dating platform. You can reach us through our contact page.

2. What we collect

• Account data — email address and password (hashed, never stored in plain text).
• Profile data — username, age, gender, location (city + coordinates), bio, favourite quote, genre preferences, and matching preferences you choose to provide.
• Bookshelf photos — images you upload to your profile, stored in a private bucket.
• Book lists — the books you add to your Favourites, Currently Reading, and Wishlist.
• Swipes & matches — who you like or pass, and mutual matches.
• Messages — private messages sent between matched users.
• Usage data — basic server logs (IP address, timestamps) for security purposes. We do not use third-party analytics trackers.

3. Why we collect it

• To operate the matching and messaging features.
• To show you profiles that match your preferences (gender, distance, genre).
• To send transactional emails (match notifications, if enabled).
• To investigate reports and keep the platform safe.

We do not sell your data. We do not run ads. We do not share your data with third parties except as described below.

4. Third-party services

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (EU region).
• Resend — transactional email delivery.
• Google Books API — book search (no personal data sent, only book title queries).
• Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — city name lookup (no personal data sent).

5. Data retention

Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all profile data, photos, messages, and match history are permanently deleted within 30 days.

6. Your rights

You can, at any time:

• Edit or delete your profile from the app.
• Request a copy of all data we hold about you.
• Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.

7. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Bookshelf photos are stored in a private bucket accessible only to authenticated users. We conduct regular reviews of access controls.

8. Children

Shelf'd is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you by email or via an in-app notice if we make material changes.
